Overview:
The design of the Cayman is befitting of its distinctive, sporty character. The performance potential is obvious at first sight, for these are true specimens of force and athleticism. Individual styling features help to define the vehicle so impressively.
The Cayman is a constant interaction of convex and concave curves. Immediately, the front displays the kind of character that you would expect to find. The front end has been restyled with enlarged air intakes that hint at the performance within.
Performance:
The Cayman is equipped with brand engine developments, but has retained the familiar layout: six horizontally opposed cylinders. The 2.9-liter engine of the Cayman delivers 265 horsepower at an engine speed of 7,200 rpm. The maximum torque of 300 Nm is achieved between 4,400 and 6,000 rpm.
VarioCam Plus combines variable valve timing with two-stage lift on the inlet side. This results in smoother running, better fuel economy and lower exhaust emissions, as well as greater top-end power and low-end torque. This two-in-one engine concept seamlessly adapts in response to driver input. The result: instant acceleration and extremely smooth running.
Safety:
Braking System
The acceleration of the Cayman is impressive. Even more impressive is the vehicle's maximum braking power, which comfortably tames the power of the engine. Four-piston aluminum monobloc brak calipers are fitted front and rear. Offering excellent ridigity, they are compact and save on weight. For the Cayman, the braking system has been modified to cope with the increased engine power.
Airbags
Each of the full-size airbags is inflated in two stages, depending on the severity of an accident. In less serious accidents, the airbags are only partially inflated, thereby minimizing discomfort for the occupants. Also fitted as standard is Porsche Side Impact Protection.
Passive Safety
Other passive safety features include head restraints integrated into the seat backrests, an energy absorbing steering column, three-point seat belts, front seat-belt pretensioners and force limiters, energy-absorbing elements in the dashboard and the flame-resistant materials throughout the interior.
